Analogue Stylish Modern Font Free Download

You won’t find an official Analogue Stylish Modern Font free download, because the studio behind it does not make trial versions: the FAQ on its own shop page asks “Do you do free trial fonts?” and answers no, pointing you to the online type tester instead. Analogue is a paid serif with a matching italic, and a desktop licence for one person is inexpensive.

Analogue Stylish Modern Font free download: the official answer

Analogue comes from New Tropical Design Studio, which now trades as Tropical Type, the Australian foundry Tom Cunningham started in 2016. The font is sold on the foundry’s own shop and on Creative Market. Since the designer offers no free version, any free copy online is unlicensed.

The foundry’s shop sells Analogue under three licence types (prices checked 15 October 2026):

• Commercial use (desktop, web, logo): $16 for an individual, $39 up to 10 employees, $99 up to 100 employees, $599 above that.
• App licence (font embedded in an app): from $49.
• Design on demand / template licence (templates you sell, or sites where customers type with the font): from $149.

The shop also notes that Analogue is part of a bundle, which works out cheaper if you want several of the studio’s fonts.

Design: a serif that is half sans

The foundry describes Analogue as “a mix of serif and sans serif” with “soft curves mixed with high contrast glyphs.” The specimen rendered from the licensed files shows what that means in practice. Most strokes do not end in a real serif. They flare slightly or end in a soft wedge, while the contrast between thick and thin is strong. The result has the drama of a fashion serif with a lighter, more open texture.

A few letters give it its character:

• The lowercase k has a curved, almost looped arm instead of two straight strokes.
• The y finishes in a long, gently curving tail, and the j drops in a similar hook.
• In “The” at the top of the specimen, the bar of the T runs into the h, one of the font’s ligatures.
• The capitals are generous: a wide M with splayed sides, a round O and a Q with a sweeping tail under the letter.

The x-height (the height of letters like a, n and o) is modest, so lines look elegant but need a larger size than a typical text font to read comfortably.

The italic

The package includes a separate Analogue Italic. The foundry calls it “a contrasting light italic” and suggests the pair for “layout design for quotes or body copy,” with the upright suited to “a unique logo or masthead.” We did not render the italic for this page, so we will leave its shapes to the type tester on the foundry’s shop.

What’s in the Analogue package

• Two styles: Analogue Regular and Analogue Italic, version 1.012.
• Formats: OTF and TTF for desktop apps, WOFF and WOFF2 for websites. The shop page also lists SVG font files.
• 205 glyphs in the Regular: full upper and lowercase, figures, punctuation, accented letters and ligatures.

Language support and OpenType features

Analogue covers English and Western European languages. The shop lists the accented characters, including á, ç, é, ñ, ö, ø, œ and ß, in upper and lowercase where they apply.

Two OpenType features are built in. Kerning balances the space between letter pairs automatically. Standard ligatures join certain letter pairs, such as the Th in the specimen; they switch on by default in Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Affinity and Figma, while Word needs them turned on under Font, Advanced.

The Regular also maps 35 glyphs to the Private Use Area (PUA). Canva and Cricut Design Space do not apply OpenType ligatures, but they can display PUA characters. Open Character Map (Windows) or Font Book (Mac), copy the glyph you want and paste it into your text. The foundry’s FAQ confirms that uploading the font to Canva is allowed under its licence.

Best uses and font pairings

• Magazine mastheads and cover lines
• Pull quotes, with the italic for the attribution
• Logos for fashion, beauty, hospitality and lifestyle brands
• Invitation headlines and menu titles

For body text under Analogue, a neutral sans such as Inter or DM Sans keeps the contrast clear. For an all-serif layout, Source Serif 4 reads well at small sizes and won’t compete with Analogue’s hairlines.

Licensing: what each licence covers

Tropical Type’s licence notes are unusually plain. The commercial licence covers branding and logos, design work, websites, packaging and social media. Client work is included as long as you do not hand the font file to the client; if the client needs to type with it, they need their own licence. The app licence is for embedding the font in an application, and the design on demand / template licence is for templates you sell or sites where other people design with the font, with a 1,000-user limit. • Windows: after you download Analogue, unzip it, select the Regular and Italic OTF files, right-click and choose Install.
• Mac: double-click each OTF file and click Install in Font Book.

Install OTF or TTF, not both. WOFF and WOFF2 are for websites and are not installed on your computer.

Free alternatives to Analogue

If an Analogue Stylish Modern Font free download is what you were after, these Google Fonts are free for commercial use. All three have true serifs, so none gets Analogue’s half-sans look exactly.

• EB Garamond: a classic old-style serif with bracketed serifs and much lower contrast. Warmer and more bookish, and better for long reading.
• Crimson Pro: a sturdier text serif with more weight in the thin strokes. Use it where Analogue would be too delicate.
• Playfair Display: the closest in drama, with high contrast and a real italic, but heavier, with round ball endings that Analogue does not have.
